Here is some information about Tory Brooks-Hill and Andrew Taylor, the new owners of LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic East Vancouver. They also now own our Kerrisdale clinic as well, so this will be their second location.
The habit of exercise has been one of my lifelong passions! I have a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and I have played team sports at various different levels, throughout my life. Post university, I spent five years in marketing with organizations such as the National Hockey League and American Express. However, my education and life to date has never answered one specific question: what will enable the general public to introduce daily physical activity into their lives in a sustainable manner? The Answer: LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic. When I reached out to Sara, the founder, to inquire about the company and the Exercise is Medicine movement our conversations easily transitioned from an introduction to a partnership!!!
When people ask, “why LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic?” My immediate response is the people. LIVE WELL attracts people who are passionate and who want to make a difference in their life or other people’s lives. People who genuinely care. I was interested in LIVE WELL because I was intrigued by it’s ability to bring physical activity to the the masses in a sustainable manner. I was hooked when I started to interact with the people.
From the members to the LIVE WELL team, the people who choose to join our community (in any capacity) are choosing to live with intent. This decision to live with intent results in an incredible, contagious energy. I see it when I walk into a clinic and read the “WINS” posted on the wall, I hear it when I interact with our members and I feel it when I engage with our team, the members or the public about LIVE WELL. It is an honour to be a part of such a movement as impactful as LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic where Exercise truly is Medicine
I live well by choosing to be present when making decisions. My husband Andrew, and I both believe strongly in this philosophy. Three years ago we made a major change in our lives and moved from Toronto, where Andrew was in a high-intensity job in the field of impact investing and international development, and I was at home with our three children. He was pursuing a passion of his to help people improve their lives through innovation but it came at the cost of his personal health. The decision to move to the west coast to pursue a more balanced lifestyle was the catalyst for several new life-changing habits. Initially Andrew became the prime caregiver of our three children while I pursued my dream of working in the field of exercise is medicine by joining the LIVE WELL family. During this time Andrew also joined LIVE WELL, but as a member!!
Fast forward to 2018, and Andrew and I decided to join forces in all aspects of our lives. When he decided to join me on working at LIVE WELL I was ecstatic. We are a good team. Actually, I think we are better than good…..we are GREAT! We have complimentary skill sets and thus are able to support each other in work and in family life in very unique and effective ways.
Andrew and I love to share our passion for physical activity with our kids. We are in our “happy place” when coaching their sports, biking in the the Pacific Spirit Park, skiing locally, hanging out at one of the city’s amazing parks…the list could go on and on. The connections with family and friends we have made as a result of physical activity, are life-long relationships.
Halloween is, by far, my most favourite holiday of the year. I have always loved it. At first (when I was younger), the candy was my main focus!! However, I now find such joy in the time spent figuring out the costumes and the smiles on our kid’s faces when all five of us dress up together. I also love how costumes bring out a different side in everyone. It gives people permission to be silly, spontaneous, and energetic in their day-to-day life. I try to bring this energy into my everyday life. I think it is so important to be able to create the structure for long-term goals but also to be able to live in the moment and enjoy a good belly laugh or two!!
